Rebecca Black Moves Past "Friday" With "Saturday"

Rebecca Black became a viral megastar three years ago when her absurd music video for "Friday" made us laugh--and made us cry when that catchy chorus wouldn't get out of our heads! No one would have blamed the teenaged wannabe pop star if she had decided to spend the rest of her life under a rock in absolute embarrassment, but she didn't! Rebecca Black is back with a new song called "Saturday" that might actually be more than catchy gimmick tune. It might be a decent pop song.

Rebecca Black was only thirteen years old when Ark Music Factory released "Friday" on YouTube and made the girl a viral sensation. The song struck a chord with its inane lyrics about cereal and the order of the days of the week. The video struck an even bigger chord with its literal interpretation of the lyrics and awkward tween performers.

Black is sixteen now and she's calling her new single, "Saturday," a sequel to equal to "Friday," but its self-awareness and slick arrangement puts it miles ahead of the original. The song might not be destined for the top of the charts, but unlike "Friday," it's a halfway decent pop song. Black's vocals have also vastly improved since "Friday." She no longer sounds overly auto-tuned and she looks far more confident in front of the camera.

Both the song and music video mock Black's past video, but "Saturday" also seems to wink at more established pop divas. The party Black wakes up at evokes Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" and Miley Cyrus's "We Can't Stop." There's even a Miley lookalike twerking at Black's shindig.

If nothing else, the song shows that Black is a well-adjusted young woman with a wry sense of humor. She's not afraid to admit that she's now in on the joke and it seems that she wants to make it clear that she still wants a chance at legitimate pop stardom.

Think she can pull it off? Or is she doomed to forever be known as the girl from "Friday?"
