Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas reunited as TLC for VH1 Super Bowl Blitz last night, turning Manhattan’s opulent Beacon Theater into the church of New Jack Swing. With all the buzz surrounding their VH1 original movie CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, the crowd was primed and ready to see the fierce ladies in action!
A wardrobe change came for the steamy “Red Light Special,” as the ladies hit the stage in revealing lace-y black attire. The theater suddenly became a James Bond movie opening, bathed in red light and filled with gorgeous women dancing and singing in the sultry voices that made them legends. As they swung their legs around chairs, you realize just how much Britney Spears, Rihanna, and so many more owe to these ladies. They did it first, and they did it better.
Soon members of the Boys’ Choir of Harlem, clad in white sequined robes, streamed onto the stage and turned the funky fresh final verse into a old style revival-meeting stomp! The choir then helped TLC close the evening out with the inspirational “Meant 2 Be,” leaving fans dancing in the aisles. “I feel like I’m 20 again!” screamed a woman next to us as she danced the night away.
All in all, it was an unforgettable show. Our one complaint? They didn’t do the All That theme! Oh well, maybe next time. To see what songs they did play, check out the complete set list below (complete with video!).
