We all gotta make a buck -even future-megastars! Before the whole music thing panned out, some of the biggest rock 'n' rollers, divas and rappers held down regular 9-5 shifts just like you and me. But some of these early gigs weren't so regular after all. From digging graves to working in psych wards, shoveling goodness-knows-what at a slaughterhouse, handling fish and breaking codes for the Army, these folks definitely earned their keep!
You didn't think that music was the only thing they were good at, right? It's fun to trace the long and winding road from stardom all the way back to the early days, just to see what kind of hidden talents these legends have up their sleeves while hammering away at odd jobs. Gene Simmons of KISS honed his makeup skills working as an assistant to an editor at Vogue, Jack White was pretty handy with his tools, and future party god Keith Richards was shagging balls as ball go-fer at a tennis court. And then there are some seriously outrageous ways musicians supported themselves before their careers blasted into orbit.
We're glad that these 20 folks quit their day job and chased their dreams, because we can't imagine what our iPod would be like if they hadn't. Head up to the gallery above for more bizarre pre-fame jobs of super famous musicians. Enjoy!
