After more than 40 years in the public eye, Sir Elton John has created countless songs that have helped reinvent the music industry. He's also extremely outspoken and opinionated, which in a world of media training and image consultants, is rare for a celebrity. For those who have only been around post-The Lion King, allow us to break things down: If life was truly like Divergent, Elton would be Candor.

With over 300 million records sold and a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Elton has earned the right to say what he's feeling, especially if it's coming from a place of love. In 2011 he spoke about longtime friend and tourmate Billy Joel's struggles with addiction to Rolling Stone, urging him to get the help he needed. He also famously engaged in a drawn out war of words with Madonna, picking up again at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards. While there have been public spats, we're not here for yet another musician feud. We're here for the moments real talk. And Elton's ability to call it as he sees it gives us new life.

Whether it's throwing some side-eye towards yet another music competition show or reminding emerging artists to step away from Instagram and hone their craft, Elton speaks for the people. In honor of the singer-songwriter and all around fabulous human being's 67th birthday, take a look at the moments where Elton aptly sums up exactly what we're thinking. It may not always be pretty, but that doesn't mean it isn't true.
