‘Tis The Season For Faith Evans! The Singer Opens Up About Love + Her New Album

This holiday season, we’re thankful for a little laughter and face time with the one and only Faith Evans! We caught up with Evans during her recent visit to the VH1 headquarters and appearance on Big Morning Buzz Live, and she humored us by taking a look back on the year, and looking forward into 2015.

Physically, Evans looks fabulous, musically she’s sounding her best ever, spiritually she’s in a good place — she can’t ask for anything more right? Wrong! What Evans wants more than anything is for the goodness and greatness that she’s enjoying in her career and in her life to be experienced and enjoyed by those she loves most — her friends, her family, and her fans. Oh, and Evans fervently expressed how thankful she is to all of her fans (A.K.A. the Faithfuls) for continuing to support her and her music all of these years. ’Tis the season for sharing, so here’s what Evans had to share on her new album, Incomparable, her love life, and her next big project involving her late husband, Biggie Smalls.

ON THIS PAST YEAR…

“2014 for me has been the year of the hustle, because I’ve been trying to execute a lot of ideas outside of finishing up my album, which was a really big deal for me. I’m also developing a lot of TV projects and stuff. My goal for the year was to just try and execute the ideas that I tend to keep in my head, and at least try and take more meetings and have a few more pots on the burners. So I think that I’ve definitely accomplished that.”

ON HER NEXT “BIG” THING…

“The biggest deal for me this year outside of releasing the album has been doing another deal for my next album, which is a duets album with me and Big called The King and I. That was something that I was thinking about doing for many years and I’m in the process of doing a deal for that situation. Aside from the R&B Divas franchise, my goal is to have at least two other shows on TV next year. I’m working on some reality and some scripted stuff, so whichever one gets picked up first.”

ON BEING INCOMPARABLE…

“One of my fans described me as such and I was like ’Ooh, I like how that sounds!’ I don’t necessarily think I’m all of that, but he thought I was [laughter]! I’m very aware that I am good at what I do, but at the same time I don’t think that makes me any better or bigger than the next person because everybody has gifts that they are blessed with. But my fans are very very supportive, and this one in particular was so happy to meet me that he was crying. I couldn’t believe it.”

ON GETTING PHYSICAL…

“I think my fans are definitely surprised in my candidness and forwardness in the subject matter on this album, with it being more sexually forward and not speaking just about love, but more of the physical kind of love.”

ON MAKING A LOVE CONNECTION…

“I’m single. I’ve gone out with people, but I’m not really a big dater. I gotta settle on who I’m gonna like. I’m in that place right now. I was seeing someone for a couple of years, and we’re friends, but there’s other people who are trying to holla so… I don’t know. I’m not really used to that, but maybe I’ll let them take me out to dinner or something. I just don’t have a lot of spare time to be like, ’Let me see if I like you.'”

ON TRANSFORMING… AGAIN

“I try to be consistent with my working out. That’s really the key for me. Everyone says muscle has memory — well so does fat [laughter]! And muscles remember if there was fat on top of it! It took me a few years to get back into consistently working out because my seven-year-old is on the autism spectrum… so I got out of that place of figuring out what it is that I have to do for me. But now I get up very, very early in the morning and I go work out before I have to get my kids up for school. Sometimes I do these stairs in Santa Monica and then I go home and do crunches and the Thigh Master. Sometimes I’ll go to the gym as well, but that really has to be a day where I don’t have a whole lot to do, because it’s always pretty busy.”

ON BEING HAPPY…

“I feel happy quite often, whether something big’s happened or not. I tend to reflect on my gratefulness to God all the time—even if it’s for something that my kids accomplish, or someone that I’m close to. I think that it’s important for everyone to do that, not just be thankful for big things happening for us or thankful when you think God is going to make something come through for you.”
