4 Musiq Soulchild Songs Every Guy Should Know

Ever been to a concert where the artist seems to talk as much as they sing? Well Musiq Soulchild isn’t one of those artists! Dressed to the nines in virtually all-black jacket, vest, slacks and shirt, Musiq appeared the epitome of cool onstage at NYC’s B.B. King Blues Club & Grill on December 22. Yet his few choice words expressed a different, more pressing sentiment.

Musiq won over the crowd not with racy, humorous, anecdotal commentary, not with slick dance moves, but simply with his songs. And what powerfully potent songs they are. In fact, there are four Musiq Soulchild songs that every man should have in his relationship arsenal at the ready, for those precious moments when a man just needs to say (or sing) that certain special something to his woman. We all know it can be difficult for men to express their emotions (not impossible, just difficult!), but Musiq Soulchild’s got you covered.

In fact, it’s his specialty — singing about the ins and outs, nooks and nuances of love. He’s so good, yet also humble, that he doesn’t even reveal his eyes to possibly adoring fem fans when he’s performing. Nope, he dons dark glasses the entire time, because he knows it’s not HIS eyes that she should be gazing into. It’s her man’s.

What Soulchild has to offer are the songs that say anything and everything there is to say. And good gets even better — Musiq shared backstage that he’s working on a new album that should be out sometime in 2015, his first release in four years. Let the lovers rejoice.

If you missed the show, you missed out on some serious LOVE 101, 202 and 303—  but luckily we took notes. Here are four Musiq Soulchild tracks to add to your romantic playlist, and the lyrics that make them so special:

“teachme”

Teach me how to love
Show me the way to surrender my heart, girl I’m so lost
Teach me how to love
How I can get my emotions involved
Teach me, show me how to love
Show me the way to surrender my heart, girl I’m so lost
Teach me how to love
How I can get my emotions involved
Teach me, how to love

“yes”

The answer is yes
When 2 or 3 years from now
you start having some doubts
about if this love will last
The answer is yes
I’ll still think you’re beautiful
’cause I’m more attracted to what’s inside of you
You don’t have to guess
The answer is yes

“ifuleave” (feat. Mary J. Blige)

If you believe you’ll do best without me
I’ll let it go girl, it’s over
But before we say good bye
Let’s give it a try

If you leave then baby I’ll leave
I’ll let it go girl, it’s over
But I have no doubt
We can work it out

“sobeautiful”

’Cause it just feels so right, I don’t wanna waste no time
If I had to choose, I know I’m gon’ always choose
To be with you, ’cause girl, don’t you know

Girl, don’t you know, you’re so beautiful?
I wanna give all my love to you, girl
Not just a night but the rest of your life
I wanna be always here by your side
