The wave of hits this year not only inspired artists to cover their favorite songs, it inspired them to remix songs as well. There were Beyoncé remixes, Sam Smith remixes, 2014 remixes of 2013 songs—and we’re just getting started. So as we say goodbye to 2014, we’re taking a look at the best remixes of the year. Read on to see which ones made the cut below. Because we’re talking about remixes, we can’t forget DJ Earworm’s “United State Of Pop 2014 (Do What You Wanna Do).” In case you haven’t already, give the clever mashup a listen below.
“Tennis Court – Lorde (Flume Remix)” by Flume
Lorde’s minimalist style got a makeover by Australian DJ Flume with this remix of “Tennis Court” from Lorde’s 2013 album Pure Heroine.
“Drunk In Love feat. Jay Z (Kanye West Remix)” by Beyoncé
There were a number of Beyoncé remixes this year, and while Nicki Minaj slays on “Flawless,” Kanye West takes the cake with his remix of “Drunk In Love.” “Rather Be – Clean Bandit (The Magician Remix)” by The Magician
Not that “Rather Be” needed a remix, but this one by Belgian music producer The Magician highlights all the best of Clean Bandit’s Grammy-nominated track.
“Tell Me I’m Not The Only One – Kanye West vs. Sam Smith” by Carlos Serrano
Colombian DJ Carlos Serrano combines King of Remixing Kanye West and 2014’s Biggest Breakout Artist Sam Smith in this remix of “Cant Tell Me Nothing” by Yeezus and “I’m Not The Only One” by Smith.
“Happy – Pharrell (Kaytranada Remix)” by Kaytranda
“Happy” was one of the most overplayed songs of the year, but Haitian electronic music producer KAYTRANADA’s remix breathes some fresh air back into Pharrell’s single.
“Habits (Stay High) – Tove Lo (Hippie Sabotage Remix)” by Hippie Sabotage
This “Habits (Stay High)” remix by brother duo Hippie Sabotage is so good, you might have even heard it before you heard Tove Lo’s original track. “Tuesday (Trey Songz and Chris Brown Remix)” by TRGAxBRZY
“Tuesday” came out of nowhere, but it only makes sense that Trigga and C Breezy would team up for a remix of ILoveMakonnen’s hit.
“Stay With Me – Sam Smith (Wilfred Giroux Remix)” by Wilfred Giroux
“Stay With Me” goes from ballad to dance jam with this remix by Wilfred Giroux.
“Waves – Mr. Probz (Robin Schulz Remix)” by Robin Schulz
Mr. Probz’s “Waves” is in the Hot 100, but this remix by German house producer Robin Schulz is electric.
“Frontin’ – Pharrell feat. Jay Z (Disclosure Re-Work)” by Disclosure
Between Disclosure’s beat and Pharrell’s honeyed voice, this track is one of the best remixes — or “re-works” — of the year.
