Sam Smith's Grammy Wins Prove His Life Is Awesome
It must be pretty good to be Sam Smith right now (although he may not think so). The 22-year-old breakout singer just scooped up four awards tonight at the Grammys, definitively making In the Lonely Hour this year's 21. However, it's not just shiny gold statues that make Smith's life pretty damn awesome.
He already won the coveted title of VH1's You Oughta Know Artist of the Year, but that's just the start of Sam's incredible rise. From hanging out with the Kardashians to gracing the cover of Rolling Stone, it's basically Sam Smith's world and we're just living in it. Let's go over all the reasons why Smith's Grammy wins are just the sweet cherries on top of his delicious existence.
1. He took a badass selfie with Kanye West, Justin Bieber and Ellen DeGeneres.
Just look at all of the music power in this photo. It's blinding. It's awe-inspiring. To be honest, it makes that pesky little Oscar selfie look like a stock photo. C'mon, West is actually smiling. We credit Smith's impact. [Photo Credit: Instagram]
2. He is one of the most influential people in the U.K.
We already knew this, but Debrett's made it official. He ranks alongside Simon Cowell, One Direction and Calvin Harris as one of the biggest shakers in British music.
3. Iggy Azalea is basically obsessed with him.

In an interview with VH1 published last month, the Australian rapper admitted she'd love to see Smith cover one of her songs. "I think he's a genius and I'm obsessed with him," Azalea gushed. How fancy is that?
4. He was one of 2014's best-selling artists and chart-toppers.
Another reason why it's great to be Mr. Smith? His enviable, white-hot success. In the Lonely Hour reached the top 10 in 13 countries and hit platinum status in more than five. Not to mention his international smash "Stay with Me" reached either No.1 or 2 in 14 countries. So what if Howard Stern called him ugly and fat (both which are incredibly untrue)? He's laughing all the way to the bank.
5. He's on this month's cover of Rolling Stone.
Further negating those terrible "ugly" comments, Smith appears sexy and smoldering on this month's cover of Rolling Stone — quite a feat for a relative newcomer. The milestone clearly meant the world to Smith, because he Instagrammed a shot of the cover and wrote, "As a kid I dreamed of being on the cover of Rolling Stone. I couldn't be happier x."
Artists throw shade at each other year-round, and they definitely don't break during the Grammys. Watch some highlights of past Grammy shade moments in the clip below.

6. His new music video "Lay Me Down" is easily 2015's best clip thus far.
OK, so maybe it only came out last week, but we're living for it... so leave us be! Smith's controversial video opens with the singer mourning at what looks like a funeral in the Catholic Church. However, it turns out to be a celebratory gay wedding — something not allowed in the U.K. just yet. Look at Smith challenging organized religion! He's slowly becoming the male Madonna.
7. GQ dubbed him "The New Face of Soul."
While not everyone agrees with the sentiment, this is still a pretty big compliment from a very reputable source. It's just further proof that nobody is impacting music quite like Smith. [Photo Credit: GQ]
8. He graced a Billboard magazine cover last year.
Need more proof that Smith is a bona-fide superstar? He appeared in a cover series about 2014's biggest breakthrough artists alongside Azalea, Meghan Trainor and Jason Derulo in December. Again, he looks sexy as hell, so we really don't know what Stern is talking about. [Photo Credit: Billboard]
9. He's kicked back with Chaka Khan on multiple occasions.
You know you've made it when a disco legend agrees to snap a picture with you. And Smith doesn't have just one photo with the "I'm Every Woman" Queen of Funk. He has two. In one Instagram post, he called Khan his "idol" and an "incredible woman." [Photo Credit: Instagram]
10. He struck a pose with Cindy Crawford.
Did we just teleport back to 1994? Because we're totally seeing two flaming hot supermodels serving us mad face. Yes, please. [Photo Credit: Instagram] 11. He's an honorary Kardashian.
We need to talk about the night last month when the Kardashians attended Smith's concert (even Kim!) and took so many ~instantly iconic~ selfies that our heads spun. Take this above selfie where Smith is right in between a Khloe and Kendall sandwich. Look how easily he picked up on their signature smirks and inviting stares. He's basically a Kardashian now. 12. He attended Taylor Swift's star-studded birthday party in December.
When photos of Swift's 25th birthday popped up on her Instagram, no one believed that much star power could exist in such a small space. Justin Timberlake! Jay-Z! Beyoncé ! Annnnd...Sam Smith! Right next to the "Blank Space" chanteuse is our beloved Smith, wearing reindeer ears and cooking up shenanigans. It doesn't get any better than sharing matching antlers with one Queen Bey. 13. Seriously, this dude has so many famous friends.
In this photo, Smith, Dianna Agron and Trainor are fabulously promoting public cuddling with slightly parted lips. We'd give anything to be the fourth person nestled in this trio. Smith definitely managed to round up some A-list buddies during his wild year. And we're better people for it. [Photo Credit: Instagram]
14. V Magazine gave him the glam-rock cover he deserves.
15. His vacations will make you green with envy.
Think your spring break trip to Florida is ritzy? Think again, peasants. Smith's Instagram is chock-full of candids from his world travels. We're quite fond of this snapshot of Smith and his buddies serving us some Audrey Hepburn realness while swimming in a pool that Jesus probably shocked himself. Listen carefully, Sammy: Life doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy your Grammys and keep making us jealous. [Photo Credit: Instagram]
