Does Oprah Feel That Beyonce Is The Diana Ross Of Her Generation?

Beyoncé played host to a gaggle of famous friends at the world premiere of Life Is But A Dream, her new HBO documentary, last night. Of course, her immediate family — husband Jay-Z, sister Solange, and mother Tina— were all there to support her, but it’s not everyday that the one and only Oprah Winfrey shows up to your movie premiere!

VH1 caught up to Queen O while she gallantly strode down the red carpet last night, and we asked her about the first time that she recognized that Beyoncé was a superstar. “I didn’t know it the first time she appared it on my show, but I knew it the second,” she explained. “’Superstar,’ to me, means something different to me than it probably does to you. ’Superstar’ means you’re going to last and withstand the test of time.” Like, say, Diana Ross?

“No,” she abruptly answered, finger wagging in defiant defense of both King Bey and the lead Supreme. “She’s not the Diana Ross of our generation, she’s the BEYONCÉ of our generation. You cannot compare her to Diana Ross. I don’t think it’s right when people try to compare. We live in a social media generation where the way celebrities relate to their fans is really quite different.”

Well folks, there you have it. Be sure to stick around to the end of the video to hear Oprah proclaim “SHE’S THE BEYONCÉ OF OUR GENERATION!” in the most Oprah-esque fashion imaginable, complete with dramatic arm gesture! (Which we have captured in GIF form for you to watch over and over and over and over and over…)
