'Game Of Thrones' Star Peter "Drunklage" Crashes Melissa McCarthy's 'SNL'

Melissa McCarthy made her triumphant return to Saturday Night Live last night, but may have been eclipsed by a couple of well placed cameos. The Cold Open featured Bobby Moynihan's Kim Jong Un being joined by the actual Dennis Rodman and then Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage made an even bigger--and boozier--splash as Drunk Uncle's brother in law, "Peter Drunklage".

The last time Melissa McCarthy hosted, she had her Bridesmaids co-star Kristen Wiig to play off of and had brought her best characters from the Groundlings to the stage. McCarthy once again proved she's an able sketch comedienne, but the results were a little more uneven and she didn't connect to the female cast members as seamlessly. Still, she brought the house down with her charisma, penchant for oddballs, and her towering skill with physical comedy--as she showed in her opening monologue:

Still, the sketch of the night belonged to another guest star, Peter Dinklage. Movie stars and politicians alike often drop by Weekend Update, but Dinklage is the first Game of Thrones star, not to mention the first friend of Bobby Moynihan's "Drunk Uncle" we've seen. Dinklage nailed his role and gave the most hilarious blog description in the history of the internet with the line, "You know what's in my tumblr? Regret."

All in all, it was a great show, and any unevenness might well have been the result of a lot of behind-the-scenes changes the cast and crew are about to undergo. Weekend Update anchor and SNL head writer, Seth Meyers, seemed positively buoyant last night-perhaps because of the rumors he's going to be Jimmy Fallon's replacement in Late Night. Not to mention, both the writing staff and the female cast might get a shake-up if Stefon writer John Mulaney's pilot gets picked up next Fall since Nasim Pedrad is attached to star in it.

Changes or not, the show always goes on, and Vince Vaughn will host Saturday Night Live next week with musical guest Miguel.
