First Dibs: Why Did Angelina Jolie Have A Double Mastectomy?

Is this week's Saturday Night Live going to be Bill Hader's last? Why is Zoe Saldana comparing herself to Elizabeth Taylor? And what was Star Trek Into Darkness almost called instead?

  • Angelina Jolie has revealed that she has undergone a proactive double mastectomy. Doctors told her she was at an 87% risk of contracting breast cancer--like her mother--and since having the mastectomy, her chances are 5%. [People.com]

  • After eight years, Bill Hader is leaving Saturday Night Live. Seth Meyers is, of course, leaving sometime next year to replace Jimmy Fallon on Late Night and Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis will decide soon if they are leaving as well. [New York Times]

  • In a new interview, Zoe Saldana hints that she has had romantic relationships with women and strikes out at claims that she's too light skinned to play chanteuse Nina Simone. "Let me tell you, if Elizabeth Taylor can be Cleopatra, I can be Nina." [Allure]

  • In a roundtable discussion with MTV News, Star Trek Into Darkness director J. J. Abrams discussed the inspiration behind the title. "We always had 'Star Trek' in the title in some way, but there were other things we talked about. There's a very intimidating, giant black ship in this called the Vengeance, so we talked about that mane, 'Vengeance,' but it also seemed like a word that was being used quite a bit in movies and it felt a little familiar."
