OK, so today isn’t the first time we’ve seen Beyonce with short hair. Doesn’t anyone remember Cadillac Records? (Us neither.) Anyway, making headlines with a drastic crop is one of the oldest tricks in the book, and one that’s still guaranteed to make us take notice.
Here is a chronological account of the most headline-worthy celeb cuts:

From Justin Bieber to Robert Pattinson, Keri Russell to Miley Cyrus, James Hetfield to Rihanna, celebs certainly love to blow our minds with their new ’dos. Sometimes it’s for a role, like Charlize Theron’s, Cynthia Nixon’s and Natalie Portman’s bald looks. Sometimes, like in the case of Emma Watson, it’s a stylish symbol of a new era in their lives. Sometimes — ahem, Britney Spears — it’s a sign of disaster to come.
As a short-hair girl myself, I’m usually a fan of these scissor statements, but how about you?
