Crisis Management: 10 Celebs Who Checked Into Rehab To Help Their Careers

With the news that Chris Brown has checked himself into rehab, the question on everyone's mind is: Is this for real? The actor who has been in trouble with the law before and has a clear anger management issue has finally sought help following his arrest, which resulted in felony charges. In what appears to many to be an effort to stall jail time, Brown, like many before him, is seeking to manage his public image via a stint in rehab. But will it work like it did for others?

Russell Brand

In 2007, Brand confessed to having gone to rehab for sexual addiction. The 30-day treatment stemmed from his penchant for strippers and prostitutes. The news was revealed during the actor's book tour, which was to promote his autobiography. The story of his addiction and rehab was detailed in My Booky Wook. The book has sold over 600,000 copies since its release.

David Duchovny

Several years ago, the actor voluntarily checked himself into rehab for sex addiction. Immediately following the news, rumors swirled that it was because Duchovny cheated on his wife Tea Leoni with a tennis instructor. However, friends refuted the claims, saying it was over pornography and Internet porn. Either way, he made his way out and back into his wife's bed.

Zac Efron

In September, it was dramatically revealed that Efron had secretly gone to rehab earlier this year to manage his alcohol and cocaine problems. Once a regular on the L.A. party circuit, the star quietly stepped back to focus on getting clean. His move represents a new wave of stars, such as Cory Monteith, going underground and not making a big show about rehab. Of course, all of the news came out as he made his way to the Toronto International Film Festival to promote his new film.

Philip Seymour Hoffman

After 23 years of sobriety, Hoffman relapsed and began abusing prescription pills and snorting heroin. He subsequently entered a 10-day treatment program. The program was designed to get him back on his feet and ready for filming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Lil Scrappy

In June, the rapper checked into rehab for marijuana addiction. After several failed court-order drug tests, Lil Scrappy claimed that he was addicted to the substance and needed help. After a 30-day stint, he was released on probation. Though, the Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star will still have to submit to random drug tests.

Lindsay Lohan

With Lohan, it's another year and another rehab stint. The latest one came after she violated the terms of her parole. What followed her release was the Lindsay comeback publicity tour, which involved a confessional interview on Oprah's Next Chapter and filming a docu-reality series. Now, she's planning to open a rehab clinic in her own name.

Eva Mendes

The actress went to rehab in January of 2008 under the guise of method acting. Mendes pegged her month-long stay to the lead role in Queen Of The South, claiming she was there for research. But it had been reported that she had secret alcohol and substance abuse problems. Only Kirsten Dunst, her rehab-mate at the time, knows for sure. Either way, she was in, she was out and the movie was never made.

Lamar Odom

Most recently, the basketball player checked himself into rehab for an exhausting 48 hours in order to save his career. A week prior, Odom was charged with a DUI, and his affinity for cocaine has long been rumored in the media. A rehab stint was the next best thing to save face in front of a judge and prevent any further negative outcome --- well, with regard to his career, at least. His marriage to Khloe (and subplot on Keeping Up With The Kardashians) is a whole other story.

Tiger Woods

Following the explosive news that Woods had cheated on his wife with multiple women, the golfer immediately went into PR crisis mode. One of the moves involved a not-so-secret stint in a sexual addiction rehab clinic. There, Woods was said to focus on purging himself of his problems while coming to terms with what he did to Elin. The rehab turned out to be a posh resort that he checked out of in time for the new golf season.
