There’s nothing like a good holiday film to spread Christmas cheer. Of course, there’s family favorites that run the gamut from Elf to It’s a Wonderful Life to, um, Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street? If visions of sugarplums are what you have in mind, maybe stick to the fruitcake, but if a sex scene involving Leonardo DiCaprio, a dominatrix and a candle peaks your interest, well then, you’re in for a treat! We asked the cast of this darkly funny, deeply depraved movie why they think this Christmas should be thrown to the wolves.
With an irresistible (perhaps even Santa-like?) twinkle in his eye, DiCaprio cautioned “Oh I don’t know if it’s the perfect family film. It’s the perfect adult film when you get to wander away from the children and go have a good time.”
Matthew McConaughey was a bit more blunt about the film’s over the top hedonism when he joked about decking the halls with “balls” of Holly, because “I betcha somebody’s named Holly in this film, and I know there’s a lot of balls in it.” And yes, McConaughey even makes THAT that sound charming.
But perhaps the film’s screenwriter, Terence Winter, summed up it up best with this twisted gem: “Nothing says Christmas like hookers, cocaine and tossing dwarves.”
Take that, Jimmy Stewart.
