As much as we are truly enjoying every scrap of a rumor about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding, we’ve also been following these stories long enough to know that diamonds aren’t necessarily forever. We’ve lost count of how many celebrity relationships have perfect fairy tale engagements without ever making it down the aisle. But guess what? Sometimes that’s a GOOD thing. If you’re dreading this upcoming Valentine’s season (it started early this year, didn’t it?) we invite you to take heart: Sometimes cold feet can lead to better futures. Just ask Miley Cyrus, or any of the other celebrities on this list of 15 couples who called it all off.
For one thing, if the original Bennifer (that’s Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez), Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow, Kanye West and Alexis Phifer, Nick Cannon and Selita Ebanks or even Chris Klein and Katie Holmes had actually made it to “I Do,” the world would have been without its current crop of adorable celebrity children. And we can’t even begin to imagine how else pop culture history would have been different. What if Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp had gotten hitched? What would the next season of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta look like if Erica and Lil Scrappy were married? You might think we should be mourning some of these couples’ splits, but just flip through this gallery and hear us out. These breakups were truly for the best.
