The Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Costume Institute Gala might be the one night a year that a fashion forward celebrity wants to wind up on the worst-dressed list. It's the one night a year when couture walks the red carpet and failures are fawned over. Lupita Nyong'o, Kate Upton and more all surprised, dazzled and disappointed us in different ways last night--and we couldn't be more thrilled about it!

Yesterday, we predicted that because of the Met Gala's Charles James theme this year, the dresses would be boring, Kim Kardashian would make a bold statement and that Lupita Nyong'o would swan around in a fairy tale princess dress. Well, we were wrong. We were very, very wrong.
The stars who stalked the Metropolitan Museum of Art's famed steps last night did not play it safe. In fact, many, including style icon Nyong'o, flouted the night's theme and opted for jazz era duds or gothic wonders. Kate Upton came dressed like the Chiquita banana lady in mourning and Italian star Monica Bellucci looked like a vampire queen on the prowl for fresh blood.
The worst-dressed star of the night was undoubtedly television personality Sandra Lee. We don't know what was going on with that pouffy silver nightmare. Maybe she was hiding alien babies growing on her body?
Last night, the ball gowns were bonkers, and all that means was that the fashion was fantastic. The Met Gala is all about taking risks; it's not about those risks paying off--though for at least one person, those risks did.
