Deep breath, everyone. Brad Pitt is fine, albeit maybe a little shaken up after being the target of Vitalii Sediuk’s latest ploy for attention. The Ukrainian “journalist” slash prankster has made a habit of crashing A-list events in recent years, attempting to “hug” whatever big name he can find. So who else has been the victim of one of his unexpected arrivals?
Bradley Cooper at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Leonardo DiCaprio at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, America Ferrera earlier this month at Cannes and an unsuspecting model at the Prabal Gurung runway show at New York Fashion Week. He also attempted to crash this year’s Met Gala in a teeny-tiny pink banana hammock. Fortunately for the rest of us, security had the good sense to escort him off the premises. Imagine if he had taken the elevator with Jay Z and Solange! Prior to 2014 he attempted to kiss Will Smith at the Moscow premiere of Men In Black 3. He got slapped, but he also got Big Willie to talk about him on Letterman. He’s probably best known for last year’s stunt at the Grammy Awards: Sediuk rushed the stage after Jennifer Lopez announced Adele as the winner of the Best Pop Solo award, and attempted to crash her acceptance speech (before a heroic J. Lo stepped in). According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sediuk was taken into custody overnight and charged with one count of willfully leaving a spectator area and entering a performance area and one count of interfering and delaying program participants. 1+1, Sediuk’s home network, hired him a lawyer, and he successfully avoided up to six months jail time by agreeing to avoid the entertainment complex L.A. Live, home to the Nokia Theater and Staples Center — where the Grammys take place. Weeks later, he showed up at the Dolby Theatre in L.A. for the Academy Awards, paying homage to Bjork’s legendary swan dress. He was not let in.
Will the publicity he’s received from his latest endeavor stop him from chest-bumping Ryan Gosling or waltzing with Taylor Swift? Only time will tell. For more information on last night’s prank, let’s turn to our friends at The Gossip Table.
