It’s here! Making its debut on the Today show Thursday morning, the Fifty Shades of Grey trailer titillated fans after Beyonce teased the upcoming release last weekend. Starring Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, the film adaptation promises to deliver on all the sex, love and seduction that made E L James’ books an international best-seller.
Leading up to the trailer, the question on everyone’s mind was, “Is it going to deliver on the kink that made the books a hit?” The opening shots look tame but by the end, it’s clear this film is going to teeter on the edge of NC-17.
While sex is certainly a key factor in the film, so is Dornan. As the title character, the model-turned-actor has the unforgiving challenge of seducing not only Johnson but audiences around the world. Does he live up to the book’s potential?
We’re going to say yes.
As for Beyonce, we still don’t entirely understand her involvement with the film but her coos from “Crazy in Love” could be heard at the end of the trailer much like the teaser she posted to Instagram. What’s interesting is that studio went with an alternative version of the hit single, suggesting this might be a very Bey-influenced soundtrack.
Fifty Shades of Grey also stars Luke Grimes as Elliot, Christian’s brother; Victor Rasuk as José, Anastasia’s close friend; Eloise Mumford as Kate, Anastasia’s best friend and roommate; Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey, Christian’s mother; Rita Ora as Mia, Christian’s sister; Max Martini as Taylor, Christian’s bodyguard; Callum Keith Rennie as Ray, Anastasia’s stepfather; Jennifer Ehle as Carla, Anastasia’s mother; and Dylan Neal as Bob, Carla’s husband. The film hits theaters on Valentine’s Day of next year.
