Yas Girl of the Week: Emma Watson

Emma Watson isn't just inspiring you to want to go to Hogwarts, she's also inspiring men and women to come together and fight injustices worldwide. This week, the Harry Potter star and U.N. Women's Goodwill Ambassador gave an impassioned speech at the United Nations about feminism that has roused a host of other celebrities to join the fight for gender equality.

Emma acknowledged that the word "feminism" has been equated to "man-hating," which is an incorrect and harmful association:

Why has the word become such an uncomfortable one? I think it is right I am paid the same as my male counterparts. I think it is right that I should make decisions about my own body. I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and decisions that will affect my life. I think it is right that socially, I am afforded the same respect as men.

Emma was at the U.N. to promote the new campaign #HeForShe, a rally call to men around the world to become a part of the conversation about equal rights for women. Celebrities like Harry Styles and Tom Hiddleston have shown their support and solidarity for women's rights. We think Hermione Granger would be a proud feminist, too.
