D. Woods On The Importance Of Her New Film Blackbird & Mo’Nique’s Return To The Big Screen

The former Danity Kane member is now making moves as an actress.

D. Woods may be best known as a singer in the original Danity Kane but nowadays she’s making films with the likes of Isaiah Washington and Oscar-winner Mo’Nique. Blackbird, directed by Patrick-Ian Polk, follows Randy as he comes to terms with his sexuality in a devout Christian family.

D. chatted with VH1 about the importance of the movie to the black community, the experience of working with Mo’Nique on her first film role since Precious, and why the soundtrack is so personal to her.

Blackbird opens April 24 in select cities.
