The Oscars Can't Ignore Bradley Cooper or 'American Sniper'

Award season is in full swing. Just as we had almost recovered from Sunday's Golden Globes, it's time to place your Oscar bets.

Bradley Cooper and American Sniper benefit from the film's recent momentum and strong theater performance. Cooper earned his third straight Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle in Clint Eastwood's latest, edging out Best Actor hopefuls David Oyelowo (Selma) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler). We know you're a big shot now, Brad. But we'll always think of you from that stint on Jack & Bobby. Marion Cotillard snuck into the Best Actress category for Twos Days, One Night, ending Jennifer Aniston's magical run and making us wonder if we really need see Cake.

Selma received nominations for Best Picture and Best Original Song, but director Ava Duvernay and Oyelowo were surprisingly shut out. (Get that cry face ready, Chrissy Teigen!) Oh, and while you were sleeping, the Queen Meryl Streep scored her 19th Oscar nomination. That's all.
