Popular kid shows like Sesame Street, Yo Gabba Gabba!, and Spongebob Squarepants aren’t always just for kids. Grown-ups have been known to not only tune in to the children’s-friendly programming (hey, some of them are really good!), but even appear on said shows. While stars like Jon Hamm, Ricky Gervais, Sarah Silverman , and Amy Poehler made the best of their time and had some seriously awesome cameos, other celebrities haven’t made quite the same impression. We’ve compiled the seven most awkward, inappropriate, or downright strange appearances by adults on kid shows.
Larry David Did His Larry David Thing on Hannah Montana
Prettttt-ay, prettttt-ay, pretttttt-ay bizarre.
Katy Perry’s Boobs (and Katy Perry) Visited Sesame Street
Won’t somebody think of the children?! Katy Perry’s “Hot N Cold” duet with Elmo enraged parents who complained that the clip showed too much of the pop star’s cleavage. Sesame Street obliged the mob and opted not to air the segment on television, and only made it available to watch on YouTube. Perry (and her boobs) responded to the controversy during an unforgettable SNL sketch.
Macklemore Rapped About Trash on Sesame Street
Most Sesame Street tunes are pretty helpful, but this take on Macklemore’s hit “Thrift Shop” about garbage is more irritating than anything. Even more cringe-inducing is when a not-safe-for-kids lyric gets changed to “This is grouching awesome.” Not really.

Nancy Reagan Brought Her “Just Say No” Campaign to Diff’rent Stokes
Most “very special episodes” are memorable for all the wrong reasons, but none were ever as bizarre as the time First Lady Nancy Reagan dropped by Diff’rent Strokes to warn kids about the dangers of drug use. Ironically enough, the episode in and of itself is a total trip.
KISS Rocked Out on Scooby Doo
Sure, KISS technically looks like something that the Scooby Doo gang would have to track down on one of their zany adventures, but there’s something unsettling about a band whose sexual prowess is as popular as their glam metal songs having a cameo on a kids cartoon.
Alice Cooper Made Halloween Even Spookier onThe Muppet Show
This was basically a televised fever dream, albeit a totally badass one. Still, even all these years later, it’s pretty insane to watch rocker Alice Cooper try and convince Kermit the Frog to sell his soul to the devil.
Lady Gaga Nearly Ruined The Simpsons For Good
Alright, so The Simpsons isn’t technically a kids show, but it’s a cartoon, so we’ll make an exception. Ask any Simpsons fan what the worst episode ever of the show is, and most of them will quickly answer this hot mess, in which Lady Gaga plays a God-like version of herself. D’oh.
