Bill Maher Criticizes 'American Sniper,' Calls Chris Kyle a 'Psychopath Patriot'

Bill Maher is never afraid of throwing shade; remember him bashing Religion on The View? Last night during his HBO Show Real Time with Bill Maher he had a few not-so-nice words about the film American Sniper.

He starts off by calling the deceased Navy Seal Chris Kyle a 'psychopath patriot' and we (Americans) love him for it. Maher felt American Sniper painted a very easy black-and-white picture of good versus evil instead of presenting a more complex story. He brought up Kyle’s quote from his book American Sniper about killing “savages” over in Iraq and getting a kick out of it, and questions why a decent Christian person would speak of anyone in that way?

Ouch Bill! The rest of the panel featuring Bret Stephens, Howard Dean, Nia-Malika Henderson, and comedian Bill Burr sided more with the film being more about soldiers emotional experience with war, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the wives of soldiers during war time, rather than just killing terrorists.

See what else Maher and panel have to say about the controversial American Sniper below, and tell us what the film meant to you.
