The Lyon Family Gets Taken Hostage on Next Week's 'Empire' Because There Can Never Be Enough Drama

Empire never skimps on the drama, instead preferring to cram as many (addictive and highly entertaining) storylines into one episode as possible. Which is why it's a perfect time to hold the Lyon family hostage while they're in the middle of a war with a rival record label.

"A huge, huge bombshell is dropped of what we thought was the truth and Lucious is behind all of it," Jussie Smollett told People when the cast dished on next week's "Sins of the Father" episode. In addition to exploring illegitimate children, secret marriages, longterm prison time, federal investigations, fraud, mental illness, ALS, drug addiction, sexuality, and murder, Empire is throwing in a hostage situation, because sure. Suddenly, the odds that someone other than Lucious or Andre might not make it to season two now seem much more likely.

In addition to facing death, Lucious has a showdown with Hakeem's boo Camilla (Naomi Campbell) and Jennifer Hudson stops by to nurse Andre back to health. But do we really think that baby is Jamal's? Where is the paternity test?!

What do you think? Is Empire stuffing too much action into each episode, or do you like your dysfunctional rich families to unwrap a new problem (without solving others) every week?

One thing we do know is that Love and Hip Hop Atlanta's Joseline Hernandez loves her some Cookie.
