Ice Cube's Son: "We Didn't Have to Have Shackles on Our Feet" To Be Recognized for 'Straight Outta Compton'

O'Shea Jackson, Jr. gets real about how black history is portrayed in media.

Ice Cube's son O'Shea Jackson, Jr. is already making history on his own. After his dad-an original member of the legendary N.W.A.-presented O'Shea and his Straight Outta Compton cast members with their honor at VH1 Big In 15 With Entertainment Weekly, O'Shea's short yet impactful speech blew us away. Luckily, this apple didn't fall far from the tree.

When accepting the honor, also on behalf of Jason Mitchell (who played the late Eazy-E) and Corey Hawkins (Dr. Dre), Ice Cube's trailblazing son explained why SOC stands apart from other films depicting pivotal moments in black history.

"We have a movie that has the potential to be nominated for an Academy Award. The most beautiful part about that, to me, at least, is we didn't have to have shackles on our feet. Those films are great, those films are powerful, those films need to be seen. But they're not the only ones that need recognition. Straight Outta Compton speaks to triumph."

Pretty powerful.

Watch the SOC cast explain the hard work that went into making the film so epic in the video below.
