'Saturday Night Live' Remembers the "Day Beyoncé Turned Black"

Where were you the day white people realized Beyoncé was black?

Last week, the day before Super Bowl Sunday, Beyoncé released "Formation," perhaps the most overtly political song of her career, alongside giving her most controversial performance the next day. The song/performance, while great on its own, is a celebration of blackness and black culture, but is being called a form of "hate speech and racism" by some.

Lampooning this backlash, Saturday Night Live created a mock trailer, "The Day Beyonce Turned Black." It's a heightened apocalyptic spoof of ignorant white people coming to the realization that their beloved Beyoncé is a black woman. But even through the hilarious jokes there's a sharp, appropriate message.

"Maybe the song isn't for us?" Bobby Moynihan asks.

"But everything is for us," Cecily Strong replies, driving this point home.
