The world is still mourning the loss of Prince, and every celebrity from Justin Timberlake to Shonda Rhimes has released a message honoring him. Stacey Dash attempted to do the same on Fox News Thursday night (April 21); however, many people are irked by what she said.
“You didn’t look at him as a Black artist or an artist of any color; he was just Prince. His music just resonated with everyone, internationally,” she said, according to BET.
Many think Dash’s comments suggest that an artist can’t be universally loved and Black at the same time, and that she tried to erase Prince’s blackness. They’re pissed about it.
Many folks took to Twitter to voice their discontent over Dash’s comments. They didn’t hold back, because it’s Twitter: the 2016 equivalent of the Autobahn.
And here comes Stacey Dash erasing Prince's blackness. "transcends colour" = "he's better than THOSE black ppl" https://t.co/90QhewPuME
