Masika Kalysha’s not just a newly minted mother but she’s making moves when it comes to being back in the studio, too. The Love & Hip Hop Hollywood comeback queen just dropped her latest single “Black Cinderella” which she performed on Monday’s (10/10) episode.
Masika says the song is autobiographical and revealed how her on-again, off-again relationship with Fetty Wap and her pregnancy inspired the record. In Monday’s episode, Masika explained, “Me and my producers came up with the song ’Black Cinderella’ because that’s pretty much how I felt at the time. I’m sitting at home while Willie’s lying on me and I’m just trying to have a peaceful pregnancy. I really debated putting this record out because right now Willie and I are actually in a good space.” The song features some lyrics that tug at the emotions like, “You dropped your sins in my lap and left me alone to clean it up.”
Masika posted a sample of the song to her Instagram and wrote, “#BlackCinderella is NOW available on iTunes, google play, Spotify, tidal, and everywhere you buy/stream music. I wasn’t going to sell this song…but the response for this record from you guys was so amazing and overwhelming that I had to release it. Wow I just want to say thank you for supporting me through this difficult journey and allowing me to tell my story through my music. You guys are the best.”
Masika’s relationship with her daughter’s father certainly is complicated and we’re so grateful that she’s brave enough to share her story on Love & Hip Hop Hollywood and in her music. Are here for “Black Cinderella”?
