Beefs That We Want to See Resolved in 2017

For these celebrities, it's time to grow up and play nice.

Without a doubt, 2016 was one of the most exhausting years in history. Maybe some planets were misaligned, maybe it's an insane influx of bad karma, but for some reason we've just been inundated with bad news and bad blood all year--and that goes for celebrities, too. From Kanye West and Taylor Swift resurrecting their feud to the stars of Love & Hip Hop still going at it, celebrity beefs have seemed to peak this year, making entertainment all the more insane and unbelievable. Thus, for the sake their sanity, and for the sanity of us fans who escape into their lives, let's hope the following celebrity feuds are resolved in 2017.

Brandy vs. Monica

Considering their whole history together was kicked off by their hit duet about battling for a boy--”The Boy Is Mine”--it’s not so ironic that the two R&B singers are going at it IRL. For years, they’ve been fighting on and off, at one point even admitting to physically getting into it. Most recently, Brandy allegedly threw shade at Monica during her Soul Train Awards performance in which she changed lyrics that seemed to take a jab at the other singer. “It’s always something, talking ish again,” Brandy sung. “Then your whole fan base jumps in, and now the whole ‘Gram’s buzzing.”

But before both fan groups could light up, Monica set the record straight on Instagram saying, “It’s disappointing to leave ICU and come to my page and see the foolishness of the 90s ever so present amongst both groups. I will forever respect the legend she is and the history we created.” So maybe there is hope that the two will put the beef behind them after all. C’mon, it’s been 18 damn years!

Jay Z vs. Kanye West

Jay Z and Kanye West may have shared a hit album--Watch the Throne--and subsequent mega-tour, together, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re wearing matching BFF necklaces now. As of recently, Kanye has been airing out Hov for everything, from Jay allegedly removing him from a song over TIDAL/Apple conflicts to Hov not calling to check in with the fam after Kim Kardashian’s Paris robbery. In fact, Ye’s so hurt that he’s even gone on to say there will never be a Watch the Throne 2. Here’s to hopping Kanye will cool off in 2017, at the very least for the sake of great music.

Tamar Braxton vs. Everybody

Toya Wright, Jeannie Mai, Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon and Tamera Mowry-Housley. That’s the exhaustive list of people Tamar’s allegedly had it out with, and--minus Wright--that’s also the entire cast list of the show she was just fired from, The Real. Well, for the sake of keeping it real, Braxton took to Instagram amidst the rumors to set the record straight, saying, “I don't wish ANYONE harm, bad luck, or cancelations, but I truly wish the girls, AND the real good luck and may God smile upon you! NOW... Can we put the "so called feud" to rest??” On behalf of America, yes please let’s put it to rest. How can anyone even keep track of feuding with this many people?

Evelyn Lozada vs. Tami Roman

Actually though, what are these Basketball Wives even fighting about? In 2015, Roman even told Vh1: "Apparently there was a beef that I didn't know about. So she's mad at me and I had no idea. So, I would like for her to pick up the phone and call me and let me know what it’s all about because I could definitely clarify it for her." Hey, maybe she did call her or maybe we’ll just have to tune into the next season of Basketball Wives LA to see if Lozada returned to clarify exactly what that is.

Kevin Durant vs. Russell Westbrook

For multiple seasons, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook fell just short of the NBA Championship with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Considering they’re touted as two of the best players in the game, that has to hit especially hard. Which is why it’s not surprising that Kevin Durant hopped on the express train to a title with the Golden State Warriors at the first chance he could, leaving his boy Westbrook back in OK to fight the Great Depression himself. Needless to say, Westbrook’s been pissed and the two have been throwing petty comments back and forth ever since. However, if either of them are to even make it to the finals, they’ll need to stop hurling air balls at each other long enough to put up the actual points to get them there.

Tara Wallace vs. Amina Buddafly

Really, though, they should direct their anger at Peter Gunz. After all, the Love & Hip Hop stars were both pregnant by him at the same damn time. While Amina respects Tara for her love and past with Gunz, she claims her beef is with Tara's fake persona and the fact she's still holding on to Peter. In fact, the two famously duked it out on Twitter over their man after their pregnancy reveal episode aired on Vh1. Sure, it's all good drama on reality TV, but with new babies in the mix, it would benefit everyone in their respective families to find a way to put this behind them.

Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather

These two just need to get in a ring or an octagon in 2017. That’s literally the only way these prizefighters can squash this. For months, McGregor, a UFC champion, and Mayweather, a champion boxer, have been provoking each other, claiming to be able to take each other down. Well, enough of the soundbites--it’s time to prove who’s right.

Katy Perry vs. Taylor Swift

Ah, the classic pop star clash. In 2013, Katy Perry allegedly attempted to poach people from Taylor Swift’s Red tour for her own Prism tour, after some of Perry’s dancers signed on to work with Swift in 2012. Pissed, Swift responded in the Swiftiest way possible--through song. Thus her hit “Bad Blood” was born, and wounds of years passed were reopened. Perry responded via Twitter with the now-classic tweet: “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing...”

Since then, it’s simply been a roller-coaster. The most recent altercation came after Swift broke up with her boyfriend Calvin Harris, who, after news leaked that Swift penned “This Is What You Came For,” unleashed a series of insulted, revealing tweets. The biggest one? “I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it.” Sounds like any hope for resolution lies solely on Swift in 2017.

Karl Lagerfeld vs. Kim Kardashian

There is no question that Kim Kardashian’s robbery at gunpoint in her Paris hotel had to have been one of the most traumatic experiences of her life. However, despite the outpouring of support from other famous folks, one in particular was not here for it. "It's a very bad thing for Paris, but I don't understand why she was in a hotel with no security," Karl Lagerfeld, the Chanel creative director, told Reuters at Paris Fashion Week. "If you are that famous and you put all your jewelry on the net, you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room. You cannot display your wealth and then be surprised that some people want to share it with you." Ah, victim-blaming at its finest. Only time will tell if Kim K can forgive Lagerfeld for this one.

Kanye West vs. Taylor Swift

Enough already. Ever since West snatched Taylor’s mic in 2009, the two have been going between playing nice and playing dirty. Most recently, and perhaps now most infamously, Kim Kardashian leaked a conversation between Swift and West in which she’s explicitly made aware that he’ll be name-dropping her in “Famous.” While she signed off on the sex line, Swift to took Instagram to explain she never signed off on being called a b-tch. “Where in the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me ‘that b-tch' in his song? It doesn't exist because it never happened. You don't get to control someone's emotional response to being called ‘that bitch' in front of the entire world,” Swift wrote. Since then, however, Swift’s remained silent on the matter, despite Kanye publicly thanking his wife for exposing her. Something tells us this will boil over in 2017, in which case, can it just, like, not?
