Miley Cyrus is Making a Return to Music, Only Without the Twerking and Smoking This Time

Recognize this face? Miley Cyrus is back again, but not exactly the way you remember her.

Gearing up for her return to music, the free-spirited pop princess covers this month’s issue of Billboard and talks sobriety, that VMAs performance, and giving her romance with Liam Hemsworth another whirl.

So does this mean her twerking and weed smoking days are behind her? Well, yes…for now. “I haven’t smoked weed in three weeks, which is the longest I’ve ever [gone without it],” she admits. “I’m not doing drugs, I’m not drinking, I’m completely clean right now! That was just something that I wanted to do.”

This newfound outlook and clear head has influenced Miley to take a different approach to the music and obviously, her look (bye bye foam finger), which will probably be evident on her upcoming single “Malibu” coming out on May 11th. But don’t get it twisted – she’s definitely not embarrassed about the old era of Miley. “It’s mind-boggling to me that there was even a controversy around me having Black dancers,” she claims. “That became a thing, where people said I was taking advantage of Black culture, and with Mike [WiLL Made-It] — what the f–k? That wasn’t true. Those were the dancers I liked!”

With maturation also comes settling down – something Miley and her fiancée Liam know a lot about. The on-again-off-again couple got engaged in 2012 after meeting on the set of The Last Song but things fizzled out during Miley’s Bangerz days. Two years later, they patched things up and Cyrus began rocking her huge engagement ring last year. The reconciliation, she says, wouldn’t have been possible without the break.

“I needed to change so much. And changing with someone else not changing like that is too hard. Suddenly you’re like, ‘I don’t recognize you anymore.’ We had to refall for each other.”
