'Get Out' Won Best Screenplay at the Oscars and the Internet Had One Big Party

Jordan Peele is the first Black filmmaker to take home the award.

So, Get Out walked away from the 2018 Academy Awards with the W for Best Original Screenplay. We were holding out hope considering the film was snubbed at the 2018 Golden Globes - but oh look at God.

In a pre-Oscars round of press, fourteen of the new academy voters spoke anonymously with Vulture about the older Academy's perception of the film and revealed that some legacy voters hadn't even seen it. “I had multiple conversations with longtime Academy members who were like, ‘That was not an Oscar film,’” one voter disclosed. “And I’m like, ‘That’s bullshit. Watch it.’ Honestly, a few of them had not even seen it and they were saying it, so dispelling that kind of thing has been super important.”

Well, apparently the new voters banned together and made sure Get Out got its flowers. The win is a history making accomplishment for the film's writer and director Jordan Peele, who just became the first black screenwriter to win an Oscar for best original screenplay in the 90-year history of the Ocsars.

"This means so much to me, I stopped writing this movie about 20 times because I thought it was impossible," Peele said during his acceptance speech. "I thought it wasn't going to work. I thought no one would ever make this movie, but I kept coming back to it because I knew if someone would let me make this movie that people would hear it and people would see it."

Peele later tweeted his amazement at the win and its hard not to swell up with joy for the hardworking comedian and filmmaker.

Get Out fans (celebs and regualr joes alike) were just as geeked over the news.

His former Key & Peele costar Keegan-Michael Key filmed his reaction to Peele's sweet victory:

Congrats Jordan!
