Sara Ramirez Reminds Us Why Everyone Should Care About Human Rights in This 'Trailblazer Honors' Sneak Peek

Liberty and justice for all, right?

Since the 2016 election, many Americans have been hurt and disappointed at this country's declining ethics and treatment of marginalized communities. That is why actress Sara Ramirez thinks the American Civil Liberties Union's fight for human rights is more pressing now than ever before.

In this sneak peek of VH1's Trailblazer Honors, Ramirez speaks to the chaos that has been a dark cloud over this nation for the past year and a half.

"Since the last presidential election, many of us who have often felt left behind raged, mourned, marched and wondered what we could do to continue to fight for the rights and liberation of everyone."

Sara's identity as a "bi-sexual, pan-sexual, queer, Mexican and Irish-American woman" and also "a human" has shaped her worldview and created a swell of compassion for the very people that the ACLU fights for. The organization's role in defending the Constitution and maintaining the unalienable liberties of the nation's people is exactly what "trailblazing" is all about.
