The sixth annual VH1 Trailblazer Honors celebrated today's most respected politicians, entertainers and activists who have dedicated their time and commitments to the women's movement and beyond. It was a night of moving speeches and tributes celebrating International Women's Day from the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles.
Rita Ora opened the show with a powerful rendition of her personal anthem, "Soul Survivor." Mindy Kaling honored her friend award-winning director Ava DuVernay, who dedicated the honor to her mother and aunt for inspiring her love of filmmaking. Alyssa Milano talked about her relationship with the #MeToo movement and its founder, Tarana Burke, who discussed her hopes for a world without sexual violence. The Handmaid's Tale star Samira Wiley accepted Margaret Atwood's honor on her behalf, and talked about their relationship and Atwood's influence. Cher honored her friend, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who celebrated the women elected to Congress and all that they are working toward.
Elle King gave a rocking performance of her song "Baby Outlaw" that paid tribute to all the women breaking the rules, and Anita Hill celebrated everyday trailblazers Aja Brown, Peppermint and Alysa Liu for their personal triumphs.
For all the headline and history-making women, it was YOUR night!
