Fall Out Boy Announces New Album, Upcoming Tour, And A Friendship With 2 Chainz
Further proof that 2013 is the year all of your former musical flames decided to reconvene in the studio: Fall Out Boy is recording new music in effort to save rock and roll. Sorry if you were cool with Mumford and Sons raking in all the non-pop and non-hip-hop accolades, but these guys have other plans:
when we were kids the only thing that got us through most days was music. its why we started fall out boy in the first place. this isn't a reunion because we never broke up. we needed to plug back in and make some music that matters to us.

After solo and side projects the band has completed their first group effort since 2008's Folie à Deux. And today's news about a forthcoming full-length album (Save Rock and Roll, out May 7) does not merely serve to gauge our interest--cough TIMBERLAKE cough--as the group comes bearing gifts, in the form of a new track, music video, and a string of live shows this spring.
The first product of their most recent output, "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)," continues the group's tradition of lengthy and detailed title work. It's a big and dramatic and most definitely has potential in future movie trailers. Lead singer Patrick Stump shows off his routinely impressive vocals, which take on flairs of Adam Lambert on key phrases ("I'm on fire!"), decorating the forceful percussion with further emotion. The song will soon get a proper music video, but for now is brought to life by none than 2 Chainz, an increasingly versatile performer (right , Kat Dennings and Stevie Nicks?) who is pretty much doing whatever he can to ensure last year's ubiquity carries over into 2013. The rapper stars in the clip ("rambo style," according to the band) as a mysterious figure dousing a pile of twigs with a can of gasoline and stepping back to admire--and celebrate--his hard work.
Like other artists with expected first quarter releases, Fall Out Boy will hit the road in support of their new effort this spring, as the Save Rock and Roll tour begins May 14 in Milwaukee, Wisc. and wraps June 30 in Nashville.
