At the ripe old age of 25, Rihanna collected the first-ever Icon Award at the AMAs last night, which is maybe a little surprising to some people. But you know what's not surprising? The fact that she set off a firestorm of tweets, Instagrams and Tumblr posts reacting to her hairstyle. The superstar who once reportedly spent $24,000 to fly her hairstylist across the globe for a follicular emergency wore a doobie wrap to the show. In the process, she taught us all a thing or two...

1) Due to the Internet reaction, those of us with straight hair learned what that style is called and why we don't normally see it on the red carpet. The bobby-pinned 'do is used to prep hair to be smooth and bouncy when it's released from the pins the next day. As a half-Dominican myself, I am pretty proud to say it originated in Dominican hair salons (and sad to say my wimpy non-Dominican hair will never get to benefit from my people's skills).

2) She taught us all, one more time, that she can look good doing anything. And maybe this was her thinking to herself, "I bet you I can go out looking like I'm still getting ready for the show, and inspire a new trend within hours."

3) Rihanna not giving an eff about what we think has reached new, unprecedented levels. We love her for it more every day.

What do you think of her wrap? Could other women pull it off? Should it stay inside?
