10 Memorable Mob References In Hip Hop

Biggie's friends and proteges referred to themselves as the Junior M.A.F.I.A. and Rick Ross is a self-proclaimed "Don." When it comes to allusions to organized crime--both fictional and factual--we need look no further than the catalog of our favorite hip-hop act. Mob Wives: New Blood premieres tonight, and to get you prepared for what's about to go down, we're taking a look at some of the most memorable mob references in music.

Real life gangsters Al Capone and John Gotti, and prohibition officer Elliot Ness (portrayed by Kevin Costner in Brian De Palma's 1987 film, The Untouchables), are among the most popular names artists employ, with mob flicks like Scarface and The Godfather leading the pack for crime-based dramas.

In Mob Wives-world, the relationship between hip hop and VH1's long-running reality series is clear. Star Drita D'Avanzo is a Staten Island resident and noted rap fiend who's even performed and shot a video with her "idol," Lil Kim , while Big Ang hosted a listening party for Drake's most recent album. To celebrate the return of your favorite New Yorkers, and welcome two new women into the mix, check out our list of mafia-inspired hip hop tracks.
