There were no longer any Twi-hards in the lines at Comic-Con this year, but vampires were still all over the place. I was thrilled to chat with the cast of Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals, Joseph Morgan (Klaus), Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley), Claire Holt (Rebekah), Daniel Gillies (Elijah), newcomer Charles Michael Davis (Marcel) and creator Julie Plec, whose dynamic was so sweet, I'm going to have a hard time buying their animosity again on the show. Here are 5 other reasons I can't wait for the show's October premiere.
1. The mythology already sounds as wacko as ever. In the backdoor pilot that aired this spring, we discovered that vampire-werewolf hybrid Klaus and werewolf Hayley are going to have a baby in Klaus' old stomping ground of New Orleans. "I have a question," Morgan asked Plec during our interview. "Does the baby turn every full moon, even when it's in the womb? And if so, how does she deal with that? Because, you know, the claws and everything."
Plec said there's a conversation in the show's first official episode where Hayley explains how she knows she's preggers. "She says, 'Look up.' And it's a full moon. And she says, 'I'm not turning.' That's werewolf culture: When women are pregnant, that's the time when the curse releases itself so the werewolf bloodlines can continue to procreate."

2. More Klaus without those silly Salvatores to get in his way. I think I asked the above question about vampires just so he would keep talking.
3. Plec is fully committed to making both shows run, basically forever. This isn't an eventual replacement for TVD, which she said she'd like to go on for "32 seasons."
4. More of the most reasonable vampire in the world, Elijah.

5. New guy, Charles Michael Davis, makes us, and his co-stars, swoon. When someone compared his voice to Morgan Freeman's, he chimed in with a March of the Penguins quote. "Can we please have an episode with vampire penguins?" Gillies asked Plec. YES.
