This Might Be the Reason Nelly Went on a Rant About Not Supporting His Dad Anymore

Hint: It has something to do with Ashanti...

Nelly publicly announced that he no longer has a relationship with his father Cornell Haynes Sr. on Instagram yesterday, which had fans scratching their heads and wondering what prompted the outburst.

The rapper shared a tweet that read, "The word father is a strong word..something I never knew anything about as a child because mine never did what he had to do only what he wanted... "HOPE IT WAS WORTH IT POPS IM DONE WITH YA NO MORE MONEY FROM ME" LET THEM PAY YA BILLS..!!"

He captioned the post, "Just because it’s ya DNA DONT MAKE YOU A FATHER..!!! Mine never saw me play sports never taught me anything never saw me graduate and I still took care of him for almost 20 years he never to care of me for half that..!!!! And till this day he still does what ever he wants even tho I pay his bills .. “WELL USE TO” ..!!! That’s Over as of tonight ..!!!"

He followed it up with a message to his mother:

"S/O to all the mamas that had to be fathers for the kids...to my mama who taught me how to catch and play ball took me to my game borrowed money to buy me cleats and stood up and cheered when I walked the stage .. I LOVE YOU Mama....!! I GET IT NOW TOTALLY..!!!"

The rant seemed to come out of nowhere. That is until fans saw that Ashanti posted a Snapchat video with none other than Cornell Haynes Sr. after her show in Saint Louis.

You may recall that Nelly and Ashanti were together for 10 years before ultimately splitting. It's not clear when the pair made the decision to part ways, but in 2015, Ashanti told Meredith Vieria that she felt "betrayed" by Nelly and refused to give any more specifics into their super private split. Clearly things didn't end super amicably.

So when Nelly said, "Let them pay ya bills" was he referring to Ashanti? It's unclear, but it's certainly possible that he thought that it was out of pocket for his father to go to his ex's show and then show it off on social media.
