The Complete Guide to Amanda Bynes [UPDATED]

Amanda Bynes has dealt with more than her fair share of drama in the past year. From DUIs and vehicular mayhem, to puzzling tweets and dramatic style makeovers, our favorite (retired) Nickelodeon starlet has been in the limelight maybe a little more than she'd like these days! Her recent behavior has confused some of her fans, leading many to grow concerned for her well-being. As long-time Nick viewers, we never saw this coming! From All That to all this, here's a look back at the highs (and lows) of Amanda's long career in reverse chronological order.

June 9, 2017: After four years out of the spotlight getting sober, Bynes gave her first public interview to discuss her sobriety.

In an interview aired on Good Morning America, Bynes revealed plans to return to acting and her sober journey which has included studying fashion at FIDM as well as focusing on her health and helping the homeless.

October 10th, 2014:  Bynes Accuses Her Father of Abuse and Says There's a Microchip in Her Brain

The 28-year-old started yet another rant — allegedly after her parents tried putting her in another mental health facility — with the post: "My dad was verbally and physically abuse to me as a child." After a few hours of detailing her father Rick's abuse on Twitter, she retracted her statements claiming the "microchip in [her] brain made [her] say those things."

October 9th, 2014: Bynes Goes on a Twitter Rant About Suing Publications

Bynes went on a long Twitter rant claiming she hadn't given any interviews and she was suing outlets such as InTouch for "lying" about her.

October 8th, 2014: Bynes Is Caught Twice for Shoplifting

She reportedly muttered randomly in the stores and walked out wearing a hat that she didn't buy. Although police were called, no charges were made.

October 7th, 2014: Bynes Says She Is Engaged

Just a week after her DUI, Bynes wears a new ring, claiming she is engaged to a 19-year-old named Caleb who sells fish bait in California. She said, "I want to be married... and settle down with children." On Twitter, she posted: "I am getting married and my boyfriend and I are going to be on the cover People magazine."

September 30th 2014: Reports Reveal Bynes Was Under the Influence of Adderall at Time of DUI Arrest

Many believe her drug problems arose since she moved out of her parents' home earlier that month.

September 28th 2014: Bynes Is Arrested in LA For a DUI

After being under the radar for quite some time, Bynes reentered the tabloid world after she was pulled over in a Mercedes at an intersection on Van Nuys Blvd for driving under the influence. She reportedly looked "disheveled" and posted $15,000 bail.

December 5th 2013: Bynes Leaves Rehab

Bynes checked out of The Canyons rehab facility in Malibu, where she had been receiving treatment for mental illness since September.

August 9th 2013: Doctors Granted Emergency Conservatorship For "Gravely Disabled" Bynes

According to California state law, such an emergency extension is granted "gravely disabled as a result of a mental disorder." However, her parents still intend to pursue their conservatorship case.

August 1st 2013: Given A Drug Cocktail To Treat Schizophrenia

The good news is that she's apparently responding very well to a new drug cocktail designed to treat the illness. According to TMZ, in only three days she has shown remarkable improvement in her behavior. She's reportedly stopped talking to herself and insulting people, and is even acting polite. Although this is obviously positive, the doctor's fear whether or not she will actually continue to take the medication once she's released from the 5150 psychiatric hold. In the meantime, her parents are planning to submit a request to gain conservatorship over their daughter, citing that their daughter needs long-term help and care.

July 22nd 2013: Bynes Hospitalized For Psychiatric Evaluation After Starting Fire

According to the California Wellfare code, the 5150 hold is used "when any person, as a result of mental disorder, is a danger to others, or to himself or herself, or gravely disabled." The incident followed reports that Bynes was kicked out of a Senior Citizen's home for appearing drunk.

July 10th 2013: EXCLUSIVE- Amanda Dances In The Streets!

Bynes had a case of boogie fever following her court appearance, as our friend (@mlcnyc on Instagram) captured in this exclusive video! The actress/performance artist shimmied her way down 58th Street yesterday, complete in Alvin Ailey studio t-shirt. Is she getting dance lessons to prep for her hip hop career? We can hope...

July 9th 2013: Platinum Out, Aqua In!

Amanda switched her style up yet again when arriving for her court appearance in New York City. Gone is the bleached blonde wig we've come to know and love, and in its place is a blue-tinged number. Sweatpants and a tank top completed the casual ensemble, offset by a pretty glam make-up job. The hearing is tied to her May arrest for (allegedly) throwing a bong out the window of her Manhattan high rise.

June 25th 2013: Puppy On Parade

Amanda took her cuddly friend out in Times Square. Or at least we think she did. Bynes took to Twitter to make claims that this is NOT her in the photo. It's pretty hard to imagine anyone else rockin' the platinum blonde wig, 3-D glasses and baseball cap combo, so maybe she's just trying to keep us on our toes.

June 12th 2013: Movin' In On Miley's Man?

Amanda sparked rumors about her past with Miley Cyrus' fiance Liam Hemsworth when she tweeted the he was the "most gorgeous man on Earth." She and Liam apparently dated back in 2009, in the pre-Miley era. But we guess she still might carry a torch for the guy, as she then slung a Twit-Insult at Miley...

But Miley didn't rise to the bait, simply responding "I think it's all so sad that I don't want to add any fuel to that fire."

June 10th 2013: Hip Hop recording deal and Playboy gig

Chinga Chang records head Daniel Herman revealed to Perez Hilton that he has signed the star for a record deal.

"I cleared the project with The Orchard and Sony Entertainment and they gave me the green light to go ahead. The fact that Amanda wants to do hip hop music means that Chinga Chang label is the best place for her to do this, because of my past experience with bringing pop and legitimate hip hop together. I think that she’s more gangster than Drake."

Bynes confirmed the story herself via (what else?) Twitter, saying that she also intends to take the show on the road.

And while we're on the top of strange side gigs, Playboy has apparently offered Amanda the chance to host her own hour-long daily radio show.

June 6th 2013: She Thinks Drake Is "Ugly" Now

Maybe she's angry that he didn't murder her vagina, because Bynes went on to call Drake "ugly" via Twitter.

Then she followed up with her commonly-known "secret" Barbie account, delivering a host of other slams, essentially having a Twitter dialogue with herself (and Perez Hilton).

She has since deleted many of these tweets in the wake of the resulting firestorm, but "doesn't deny" that she called him ugly. But quickly she backtracked, saying that she actually loves him BECAUSE he is so homely. Sort of like a pug? We have no idea. "I only like @drake because he's so ugly! His ugly cheeks at the EA conference! Fine he is not, but he knows he's ugly! I've spoken to him!" she wrote.

Then more recently, she buried the hatchet and tried to play nice.

June 2nd 2013: Possibly Evicted?

It looks like her legal shenanigans with tossing a bong/vase out her window might have cost Bynes her apartment. An insider reportedly saw moving vans packing up her stuff.

"At 9 p.m. on Tuesday, movers showed up and removed Amanda’s belongings from her apartment. Even before her arrest, residents had constant complaints about the smell of marijuana coming from her apartment. She had also cursed out residents and the doormen, and the smell of pot from her apartment was really annoying people."

May 28th 2013: New Twitter Feuds With Chrissy Teigen and Courtney Love

Model Employee host Chrissy Teigen took to social to lambast people who are enabling Amanda Bynes's via twitter. This caught Bynes' attention and she replied with this TwitPlus post...

Courtney Love also decided to weigh in on twitter, imploring Amanda to " pull it together dude." Amanda fired back calling Courtney "the ugliest woman I've ever seen," in a tweet that she then deleted. However, Amanda retweeted Joel McHale's mocking RT of the incident:

May 25th 2013: Allegations of Sexual Assault

According to Bynes, she wasn't the bad guy in all of this.

The NYPD are addressing these charges seriously and have started an investigation into their validity. This includes interviewing her apartment building manager who was present at the arrest and who said no one touched Bynes inappropriately. ABC News also reports that a source says that Amanda was calling in complaints against the cops arresting her before they even arrested her.

Later on Saturday, Amanda tweeted, "Believe everything I say on twitter!"

While using twitter to claim the cops sexually assaulted her, Amanda Bynes also used it to tweet at Rihanna that "Chris brown beat you because you're not pretty enough." Bynes almost immediately deleted it, but not before outlets like Eonline screengrabbed it:

Rihanna also apparently saw the offensive tweet before it was deleted because minutes later she cracked a joke that was at Bynes's expense:

Bynes responded maturely by tweeting, "@rihanna unlike ur fugly faced self I don't do drugs! U need the intervention dog! I met ur ugly face in person! U aren't pretty u know it!" Bynes deleted that tweet, also.

Since then, Amanda has tried to exonerate herself with yet another rambling TwitPlus post, which claims that she never tweeted at Rihanna (even though anyone who checked her feed on Sunday clearly saw that she did) and that she and Ri-Ri will "be in a music video together one day!"

May 23rd 2013: Busted for throwing bong out of her high-rise window.

The cops had been called after her building superintendent complained that she was smoking marijuana from a pipe in the apartment lobby. Thankfully the bong didn't hit anyone, but Bynes was charged with tampering with evidence, reckless endangerment and marijuana possession. She was lead out of her building in handcuffs and a blonde wig around 8 PM and taken to Roosevelt Hospital for a psych evaluation, before being brought to the Midtown North Precinct house.

After weeks of being selective about the images magazines and blogs used of her, she revealed why. "The reason I've asked all magazines and blogs to stop using old photos of me is I don't look like that anymore," she wrote. "I had a nose job to remove skin that was like a webbing in between my eyes." The difference appeared to be subtle. Bynes was happy with the surgery, calling it, "the most amazing thing" for her confidence.

May 2nd 2013: Gets into brutal Twitter beef with Jenny McCarthy

I hope they get her help. Enough of this circus. She needs help." Amanda didn't take kindly to this, calling Jenny "ugly" and tweeting back a series of insults.

May 2013: Achieves Internet-Meme status with #Bynesing.

April 25th 2013: Debuts her half-shaved head.

"I buzzed half my head like Cassie," she captioned the Twitpic. "No more old photos! This is the new me! I love it!"

April 4th 2013: Reveals her struggles with an eating disorder.

Days after tweeting "Skinny's the f---", Bynes shared her body issues with her followers on Twitter.

April 2013: Drake crushes Amanda's dreams.

A fan asked Drake about the vagina murdering tweet. His response was turned into a gif.

March 21st 2013: Sends obscene booty tweets to Drake.

She wants Dreezy to do what to her WHAT!? Amanda's NSFW tweet asking Drake to "murder her vagina" would definitely make her Ashley alter-ego wince.

January 15th 2013: She unveils her new makeover on Twitter.

Amanda showed off her "edgy" guidette-esque look on Twitter, featuring heavy makeup and pierced cheeks. It was a departure from the squeaky clean image of her youth.

November 2012: Might have wandered around a tanning salon naked...

"I’m suing In Touch for printing a fake story," she told Us Weekly. "I'm not 'troubled.' I don’t get naked in public."

September 20th 2012: Her management team abandons ship.

September 17th 2012: Locks herself in a store fitting room.

The staff grew concerned when they heard the sound of banging on the walls. "I was so worried about her. I didn't know what she was doing in [the dressing room]. I didn't know if she was overdosing, or doing drugs or what," an employee said. Any attempts to get her out were met with insistence that she "needed more time."

September 6th 2012: Sparks up in a Home Depot parking lot.

Bynes pushed her luck even further in September. She took a three hour driving tour of LA even though her license had been suspended. The aimless wandering took her to a Baja Fresh and a Home Depot parking lot where she took hits out of a pipe designed to look like a car lighter.

August 2012: More motor madness...

This brought her personal score to 1 DUI, 3 hit-and-runs, and 1 flee from police. When she risked road travel again, she was pulled over for not putting her headlights on and exposing her suspended license. Her car was impounded. Adding insult to injury, Lindsay Lohan tweeted a diss.

June 6th 2012: Sends Obama an SOS!

Please fire the cop who arrested me. I also don’t hit and run. The end,” she wrote.

April 13th 2012: Teaches us why we don't text and drive in LA.

April 6th 2012: Crashes her car into a cop cruiser.

Bynes was pulled over at 3 AM in West Hollywood after her attempts to pass a cruiser ended in collision. She was given a field sobriety test and found “not fit to be behind the wheel.” She was held on $5,000 bail before being released. A week before that she drove off while a policeman was writing her a ticket. A few weeks earlier, she was spotted leaving an LA club on St. Patrick's Day looking worse for wear. But the car crash set the tone for the next year, and introduced the paparazzi to her new lilac-colored hair.

June 2010: Retires from acting, then un-retires from acting.

"I don’t love acting anymore, so I've stopped doing it," she wrote. A few days later, she posted that she "unretired."

February 2010: Lights up the pages of Maxim with lingerie spread.

2007: Takes on racism with Hairspray.

Also this year, Amanda inked a 5-year deal with Steve & Barry to design a fashion line, "Dear." However, S&B filed for bankruptcy soon after and went out of business for good in January 2009. Around the same time, plans for a Hairspray 2 were aborted.

2006: Takes on Shakespeare with She's The Man.

This modern take on Twelfth Night features her mackin' it with a pre-superstar Channing Tatum. Definitely a career highlight.

2002-2006: What I Like About You premieres. It's her first sitcom role.

After game shows and sketch programs, Bynes finally got her chance at a sitcom with this WB vehicle set in New York City. She starred as spunky teenage Holly Tyler, with Jenny Garth supporting as her older sister Val.

2002: Makes her big screen debut in Big Fat Liar.

A year later, the lead role in What A Girl Wants sent her film career into orbit. Voice over work in Charlotte's Web 2 and 2005's Robots followed.

1999-2002: She snags her own solo sketch program, The Amanda Show.

She also had a reoccurring vocal role as Taffy on the Nicktoon Rugrats.

1997-1999: Becomes a regular panelist on game show Figure It Out with Summer Sanders.

Alongside fellow All That MVPs like Danny Tamberelli and Lori Beth Denberg, the gang tried to guess a contestant's secret talent while trying to avoid getting slimed.

1996-2000: Shot to fame on All That, won our hearts.

April 6th 1986: Born in Thousand Oaks, California to Rick and Lynn Bynes, a dentist and his dental assistant.

Her dad dabbled in standup comedy, so it's definitely in the genes.
