Tinashe’s latest interview with British news site The Guardian is chock full of juicy details about the singer’s life and rise to fame – including her series of false starts in the industry, tons of jealousy from her classmates and blatant sexism in the music industry.

But somehow (and like always) social media managed to zoom in on one particular comment from the singer about her mixed race heritage and dragged her to hell and back for it. She describes that being the child of a white mother and Black father is “another example of why I was different” during her adolescence.
