Y'all Ready for This? VH1 'Hip Hop Honors' is Honoring Martin Lawrence, the Ultimate 90's Game Changer
Last year's Hip Hop Honors: All Hail the Queens was full of surprises, epic performances and tributes, and hot fashion that made us say "YAAAAAAS Queens!"
And this year VH1 is taking you back to the '90s with Hip Hop Honors: The 90's Game Changers, which will air on Monday, September 18th at 9PM ET/PT. Get ready for a '90s style block party that will celebrate the golden era of hip-hop and the moment when hip-hop became mainstream across pop culture. The special event will feature moments from television and film, chart topping albums and the creative elevation of music videos.
The first honoree to be announced is groundbreaking comedian Martin Lawrence.
Known for his over-the-top, broad physical humor and colorful characters, Lawrence redefined the comedy landscape. Not only is he absolutely hilarious, but his ground breaking self-titled sitcom Martin, which ran from 1992 to 1997, is pretty much peak '90s in every sense of the word. Not to mention all of the iconic comedies he has gifted us with, like the Bad Boys and Big Momma House franchises, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, National Security, and so many others.
This special event will also pay tribute to the hurricane victims during this difficult time.
While you wait for September 18th, check out last year's tribute to Missy Elliot. Remy Ma, Nelly Furtado, Eve and Trina performed a medley of 'Work It,' 'Get Ur Freak On,' 'Hot Boyz,' 'One Minute Man,' 'Lose Control' and 'WTF' alongside dancers to tribute the powerhouse that is Missy.
