Here's What Old People Don't Understand About Jaden Smith
Jaden Smith still isn't legal, but he's years ahead of the game when it comes to fashion, music, social media, and general life outlook.
He's been a polarizing figure since that infamous 2014 T Magazine interview in which Jaden, 17, and sister Willow, 14, talked about prana energy and other concepts us plebeians have never even heard of. Younger generations recognized Jaden and his sister as the great thinkers we know them to be. Others, mainly old people, didn't understand what the hell these young hooligans were talking about.
A lot came out of that interview, but it also gave way to the notion that Jaden is misunderstood. We're setting the record straight for those who don't get him. Because life.
He is v fashionable.
Jaden recently made GQ's "20 Most Stylish Men Alive" list, which makes him the youngest hypebest repping right now. Other than inexplicably wearing the occasional superhero costume, Jaden is sartorially sound and daring. Flashback to that time he wore a dress.
People once thought his fashion line was divinely inspired.
This story about Jaden Smith starting a God-inspired clothing line called 666 is actually false, but Jaden does have a clothing line called MSFtS. "It’s kind of just black on black," he told Wonderland about MSFtS. "Almost everything in the line is black. Some would call it street goth. I would say it's a fashion-forward street brand."
He's not afraid to be different.
As suggested by the name of his clothing line, Jaden thinks misfits get a bad rap. "Everybody can be a misfit. It's not just a clique. ... They're a misfit because they're different," he told Wonderland Magazine in 2013.
He has Twitter game like no other.
Twitter is a better place when Jaden is on it. Some favorite tweets include the one about swerving too hard in a dress with no pants and the one in which he called Instagram a "blackhole."
He's an award-winning actor and should be recognized as such.
Jaden first started acting in the TV series All of Us in 2003. His breakthrough role came at eight years old via The Pursuit of Happyness when he co-starred alongside father Will. Jaden has been nominated 19 times at awards shows, and has won eight awards, including BET's 2011 YoungStars Award. He's now working on a Netflix drama, The Get Down, by Bahz Luhrmann and Shawn Ryan that's expected to debut next year.

Jaden often posts tiny pictures you can barely make out, blank squares, and the same picture three times in a row. Why? The effect. Like a curator would an art exhibit, Jaden carefully puts together his Insta. There's probably another reason, too, but it makes it look cool AF.

Jaden most recently dropped his three-track This Is The Album EP in February after debuting three new songs via T Magazine in his joint interview with Willow. Jaden hasn't had a breakout hit like his sister, but that doesn't mean it's not in the cards for him. His music is fire.
He's low-key one of the greatest thinkers of our time.
Let's go back to Jaden and Willow's insane T Magazine interview. Jaden explained the concept of time, something which many have zero concept of.
"It’s proven that how time moves for you depends on where you are in the universe," he said. "It’s relative to beings and other places. But on the level of being here on earth, if you are aware in a moment, one second can last a year. And if you are unaware, your whole childhood, your whole life can pass by in six seconds. But it’s also such a thing that you can get lost in."
He's determined to run shit.
As if having your own clothing line, a music career, an acting career, and a new radio show on Beats 1 wasn't enough, Jaden wants to take on the world. He told T Magazine, "That’s another thing: What’s your job, what’s your career? Nah, I am. I’m going to imprint myself on everything in this world."
