Drea Kelly Thinks Ex R. Kelly May Be to Blame for a Gun Threat at 'Surviving R. Kelly' Screening

A screening of the new Lifetime documentary Surviving R. Kelly was evacuated after the venue hosting got "several anonymous threats" that there was a gun in the theater and Drea Kelly has a feeling she knows who is behind it.

A spokesperson for NeueHouse Madison Square, the theatre holding the event, told CNN the caller "said that if the film continued to play, someone inside the theater would start shooting." The police then recommended that the building be evacuated.

Founder of the #MeToo movement Tarana Burke was present at the screening and tweeted about the incident saying, "Tonight was a private screening of the @lifetimetv documentary #survivingRkelly where his survivors, parents of survivors, and folks featured in the doc were gathered and a BOMB THREAT was called in and the event shut down. #muteRkelly."

She added, "The worst of it isn’t the threat though bc it didn’t appear to be credible but the survivors who had to endure his harassment."

The threats were "non-credible," but that doesn't mean that the events of the evening didn't shake those in attendance.

Among the women there speaking on their experiences was Drea Kelly, R. Kelly's ex-wife. She believes that the threat could be connected to R. Kelly. She told Variety, “I can’t speak to what he would or would not do because I don’t know what his mindset is right now. But I would say that I don’t believe in happenstance, I don’t believe that anything is a coincidence. I do believe that in some shape, form or fashion it is connected to him. Now, whether he orchestrated it or not, that I cannot say. But I just do not believe in coincidences. Of all the theaters, of all the nights, of all the premiers, it happened with us.”

Drea was one of seven women who were there to talk about their experiences with the singer.

She was upset that the evening was derailed by the threats, but told Variety, "I will say that whomever is behind it and whatever their goal was, if they thought it was something that was going to dismantle us or crush us in any way it actually did the opposite. All they did is unite even more than we already were, and all they did was let us know that we are doing a mighty work and we will not be stopped."

At the end of that day, Drea says this of herself and the other survivors: "We are united and we’re not going anywhere."
