'Hidden Fences' is a Thing at the Golden Globes and We're All Winning For It

The 2017 Golden Globes hit a few snags. The funniest of them all involved two of this year's standout Black films which apparently are too similar to distinguish.

Viola Davis won Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal in Fences while Hidden Figures was nominated for a variety of awards including Best Original Score. Both films were incredible and significant in their own right, and most importantly, are not one in the same. A few folks at the awards tonight apparently couldn't tell the difference.

Jenna Bush kicked off with a major slip of the tongue asking Pharrell Williams about his involvement in the film Hidden Fences *spoiler alert - the film doesn't exist*. He admirably contained his aggravation and resisted the urge to correct her. But then, it happened again. While presenting the award for Best Supporting Actress in a film, Michael Keaton mistakenly referred to Hidden Figures, as Hidden Fences, confusing it with the drama Fences starring Denzel Washington and winner Viola Davis.

And for sport, a few brilliant Twitter users had a grand old time jumbling up the names of classic black films. This once again proves the internet is undefeated:

Sadly, the ceremony ended without anyone ever making the correction on the difference between Hidden Figures and Fences. Hopefully the misnaming of both films doesn't follow us to the Oscars next month.
