Sarah Paulson Brings The Real-Life Marcia Clark To Tears After Winning Emmy For Playing Marcia Clark

"I'd also like to acknowledge the winner of tonight's plus-one contest – Sarah Paulson, who played Marcia Clark and actually brought Marcia Clark with her tonight," host Jimmy Kimmel said at the beginning of tonight's 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

Paulson was highly favored to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Mini-Series or Movie for playing Clark in The People Vs. O.J. Simpson, and for those of us who watched (and obsessed over) the mini-series it was no shock to hear her name called as the winner. During her acceptance speech, brought her date to tears, by apologizing publicly for the media scrutiny Clark faced throughout the O.J. Simpson trial.

"The responsibility of playing a real person is an enormous one. You want to get it right, not for you but for them. The more I learned about the real Marcia Clark, not the two-dimensional cardboard cutout I saw in the news, but the complicated, whip-smart, giant-hearted mother of two, who woke up every day, put both feet on the floor and dedicated herself to righting an unconscionable wrong, the loss of two innocents, Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown, the more I had to recognize that I, along with the rest of the world, had been superficial and careless in my judgment and I am glad to be able to stand here today in front of everyone and tell you I'm sorry."

A visibly moved Clark received an much-deserved ovation after Paulson's speech. The People Vs. O.J. Simpson also won Emmys for Outstanding Limited Series, Courtney B. Vance received the statue for Outstanding Actor in a Mini-Series, and Sterling K. Brown won Outstanding Supporting Actor.
