Mary J. Blige Has Reportedly Filed for Divorce From Her Husband and Manager
Mary J. Blige is ending her 12-year marriage to Martin "Kendu" Isaacs, according to a new report from TMZ.
The site is saying that Blige has filed for divorce from her husband and manager, whom she married in 2003. Blige apparently hasn't yet locked down a date for the official separation, but she did cite "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for divorce. There's also supposedly another curious tidbit noted within the divorce documents. From TMZ:
"There is one interesting note ... Blige is asking the judge to block Isaacs' ability to get spousal support. The document does not say if there is a prenup."
The site pulled up part of an interview Blige did back in 2014, in which she talked about being married to her manager. TMZ reports the interview was for Stella Magazine, but we found the same quotes in a 2014 Telegraph profile.
"He always has my back—he’s going to fight to the death for Mary J Blige," Blige said of her husband. "The downside is that there's no separation—it's on all the time. When you don’t feel like answering to your manager, he’s still your husband." In this same interview, Blige called being married for 11 years an "achievement," adding, "I never thought I’d last this long in a marriage."
It's unclear why Blige filed for divorce to begin with—"irreconcilable differences" is a vague term. Here's hoping Blige and Isaacs are able to sort things out for the best—whatever that might be for them.
