On August 1, 1981, television changed forever with the launch of MTV. The first video to ever air on that momentous day was ironically, or maybe not — "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles.
Fast forward 33 years, 10 months, 29 days later, and British band Spring King now hold's the distinction as the first to be played over the Apple airwaves. Apple DJ Zane Lowe set the momentous launch off with their energetic single, "City" from their EP They're Coming After You .
With Apple executives Tim Cook and Jimmy Iovine steering the house Steve Jobs built, Apple has their sights set on dismantling competitors like Spotify & Tidal in order to claim streaming supremacy. Whether Apple Music does for streaming what MTV did for videos will take many years to decipher. But for the Spring Kids this is an extremely good look which should yield the band a nice boost in their following.
