Grammys 2013: VH1 You Oughta Know Artists Take Home 7 Awards
You know how you always hear attendees at awards shows say that it's just nice to be nominated? While that sentiment certainly holds true for our pack of amazing VH1 You Oughta Know alumni who earned themselves 17 nominations at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, the reality of the situation is that it feels even better to win. That's why we here at VH1 are bursting at the seams with pride tonight that our You Oughta Know family took home SEVEN GRAMMYS (!!!) at tonight's ceremonies, including honors in two of the Big Four Categories: Record Of The Year (Gotye's "Somebody I Used To Know") and Album of the Year (Mumford And Sons' Babel).
While Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys was the night's big winner with four Grammy victories, it was Australia native and February 2012 You Oughta Know artist Gotye who was the night's second biggest winner. Gotye, whose real name is Wally De Backer, took home three Grammys tonight, including a HUGE win in the Record of the Year category for his smash duet with Kimbra, "Somebody I Used To Know." Gotye also won in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category for "Somebody," and took home the prize for Best Alternative Music Album for Making Mirrors.
Mumford And Sons were named as a You Oughta Know act back in June of 2011, just when their debut album, Sigh No More, was starting to make waves. The band rocketed into the mainstream at last year's Grammys ceremony, and this year pulled an upset over the aforementioned Black Keys in the prestigious Album Of The Year category. They also won the Grammy for Best Long Form Music Video for their concert film/documentary, Big Easy Express.
The other two YOK alumni to take home honors tonight were The Civil Wars, who won Best Song Written For Visual Media for their track from The Hunger Games, "Safe & Sound." Oh, lest we forget, a little known singer named Adele won for Best Pop Solo Performance for her track "Set Fire To The Rain." Keep an eye on that one, we have a feeling she's gonna be a massive star one of these days...
Who will be next year's big Grammy winners? It's impossible to say at this juncture, but one thing is for certain: Each month, VH1 will be introducing you to a new You Oughta Know artist. So be sure and follow along each and every month and get to know the stars of tomorrow today!
