Hollywood might be filled with some of the biggest stars on Earth, but some of those celebrities aren't so tall in real life. From The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug's star, Martin Freeman, to everyone's favorite reality star, Kim Kardashian (who might not be a hobbit in the negative way South Park pointed out last night--but she is surprisingly short!), it seems like some of the most extraordinary stars are shorter than the average person.

One of the biggest themes of The Hobbit trilogy (and The Lord of The Rings trilogy) is that stature is not a mark of importance. The smallest person can make the biggest difference in the fate of the world--or be the biggest star in Hollywood. As it happens, there are a lot of celebrities who are way shorter than they may appear on screen. Like, it's almost shocking how short some of these famous faces are.

The average American adult male is 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall and the average American adult female is 5 feet 4 inches tall. All of the celebrities on this list are at least two inches shorter than the average American adult. That means all the men we've listed are 5 ft 6 inches or shorter and all the women are 5 ft 2 inches or shorter. And no, we weren't counting their heights in heels.

Obviously onscreen hobbits Martin Freeman and Elijah Wood are on the short side; both gentlemen are 5 feet 6 inches tall. And starlets like Kristen Bell and Anna Kendrick have long used their petite statures and big voices to wiggle their way into our hearts. However, we were shocked to discover that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen aren't just short; they're different diminutive heights!

In the end, it doesn't matter how tall or how short these stars stand because they still stand above the crowd.
