Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas talk to VH1 Music about "Baby-Baby-Baby," the biggest hit from their debut album, Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip.

"That's Babyface," says Chilli when recalling the song's creation. Written by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, the single showcased a smoother side of TLC. And it featured those elements that signify a Babyface track: new jack swing beats, simply yet catchy hooks and an appreciation for a deep female voice. Watkins, like Toni Braxton at the time, benefited from Edmonds' ability to write songs that fit her raspy register.

Although, it's become expected that a Babyface song would be a hit, the girls were ultimately surprised by its success. The song was very different from the album's other singles, "What About Your Friends" and "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg," which were more upbeat and danceable. But it also planted the seeds for later hits, such as "Creep" and "Red Light Special."
